Est. 1893 · Reopening 2026
An archipelago icon reborn
After the most extensive restoration in the hotel's history, we open our doors again on the hotel bay in Saltsjöbaden.
Until opening
Opening 2026. The exact date will be announced shortly.
Since 1893
The same facade, the same bay — a new hotel within.
For more than a century Grand Hotel Saltsjöbaden has stood at the edge of the Stockholm archipelago. The house is now being returned to its original state and completed with a spa, new restaurants and 135 rooms — twenty minutes from Slussen, yet another world entirely.

The renovation
What is kept — and what is new
The facade and silhouette
The brickwork, the towers and the roofline towards the hotel bay are restored gently, stone by stone.
The halls
The ballroom, the French dining room and the Veranda keep their proportions, mouldings and light.
135 new rooms
Every room is rebuilt from the ground up — new bathrooms, new technology, quieter walls, water views.
A 3,200 m² spa
Pools, saunas and treatment rooms in stone, cedar and Nordic light — the hotel's largest addition.
The Rebirth · 2025 — 2028
Back to the turn of the century.
The Solberg family took over the house in 2023 with a quiet ambition: to remove the 1980s and return to K.A. Wallenberg's 1893 bathing hotel.
"With a house from 1893, it is unwise to be too bold."
— Mikael Solberg
Seven chapters of a restoration.
- 1
Alice's living room
Between rooms 121 and 126 the walls have been taken down. Sea-view rooms are replaced by a new combined reception and dining room, named after founder K.A. Wallenberg's wife Alice.
- 2
The star parquet of Franska Matsalen
The original star parquet is being relaid in the French dining room — exactly as it appeared at the turn of the century.
- 3
A new 3,200 m² spa
Eight pools, several saunas, a hamam with warm stone slabs, a fire room, and a rooftop outdoor sauna open to the archipelago.
- 4
Fewer, larger rooms
Room count drops from 135 to 104 to make room for larger bathrooms, quieter social spaces, and the kind of proportions a Belle Époque house deserves.
- 5
The linden allée returns
In April 2026, six lorries roll in from Holland. Their cargo: thirty-year-old lindens, ten metres tall, restoring the allée that was felled in the 2000s.
- 6
Geothermal replaces oil
Green fluid has been drilled deep into the cold ground in search of geothermal warmth. Fifty-year-old oil boilers are retired. The house is now driven forward by what lies beneath it.
- 7
A circular restoration
Nearly all removed material is recycled. Beds, desks, lamps and other pieces are auctioned off week by week — a new life for the old, in other homes.

The spa · 2026
A bathing house, two centuries on.
Limestone, light and water. A spa across two floors with an indoor pool, sauna, steam and a heated outdoor pool meeting the archipelago.
